Review of Purpose
Purpose is most often described as a singular endeavor. Yet, what I have found after years of exploration and hundreds of thousands of interactions with people on this journey is that everyone has multiple purposes. These purposes can be found through simple practices that I’ll show you how to surface a bit later in this book.
the path to a different, more fulfilling future runs through our digital lives.
each of us has the power to design the role we want technology to play in our lives and the world around us.
Community is an amazing thing. It can be a source of great joy and curiosity in normal times and, in the darkest moments of grief, the most comforting.
community to seize life’s extraordinary beauty as well as navigate its inevitable tragedies through both communal celebration and shared grief.
the role of community in my own life’s highs and lows would help me see my purpose with even greater clarity.
I wanted to work on something that truly matters in people’s lives, and this felt right.
By focusing on communities, I could understand and contribute to the ways more tight-knit communities could unlock more people easily finding more purposes in their lives.
made a clear intention to use my time, talents, energy, focus, and now-emerging expertise to make it possible to start tight-knit communities around an interest, passion, or goal. Then, unlock how to scale them up to new, unexpected heights with hundreds, then millions of people all over the world.
The true value of Facebook –and any social network–is the connections made between people.
it remains a warm memory for those of us who worked together on it, as well as those who used it to build and grow the earliest private social networks.
realized the frameworks we used to guide people in building the most successful digital communities had an even bigger purpose.
If you want anything to have a tangible, real impact in your life, you need to make it a practice. Daily. The same is true for your purpose. You can’t just write it down on a Post-it note and hope it manifests itself into existence.
