Doctors are the most respected professionals and can even be trusted with their patients' privacy. However, what happens when a doctor uses this honored position to take advantage of patients? Vernon Baumrind is a heartbroken man who lives to tell his betrayal story in this book, Deceit.

It was in the late 1970s when Vernon, a father of two and a loving husband, suspected his wife of over a decade was having an affair with her doctor. The cheating pattern displayed by his wife made Vernon make difficult decisions to prove his suspicions were true. Plus, a divorce in the near future was obvious, so he needed to do whatever he could to have enough evidence to grant him custody of their children. Deceit is an account of a broken man's struggle to save his children from falling into irresponsible parenting hands while relying on evidence disputed in court as a violation of privacy. Can he win?

The book is educational, especially for married couples. From the case of Vernon and Linda, we learn a lot about a happy and a broken marriage and their effects on children, which helps us make the right decisions. The book also warns about who we can trust with our spouses. Vernon trusted the doctor who helped his wife deliver, but the doctor became a predator to Linda and many other patients. Deceit also warns readers about the effects of pornography and sexual misconduct.

Furthermore, the book is so relatable that I felt the author's pain. I'll say that Deceit is the most saddening and yet the most encouraging book I have ever read. It's beyond my surprise that Vernon doesn't spread hatred toward Linda even after the betrayal. His resilience and kindness are inspirational.

I didn't find anything negative about the book, so I didn't dislike anything about it. It was also professionally edited. Therefore, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. Vernon's story is best suited for couples because it is about marriage challenges. There is also a high rate of sexual content in the book, making it only suitable for a mature audience.
