A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah stands tall amongst memoirs because of its sheer size, incredible stories, and revelations about some of history's most important moments. The author died in 2011, and he left a legacy that should live on for many years to come.

His story begins in Aïn Beïda, Algeria. Ghoulem's life wasn't perfect, but he had loving, present parents. Unfortunately, his father died when Ghoulem was just 5 years old. His stepbrother from one of his two previous marriages, Fodil, stepped in to help raise Ghoulem and his siblings.

He studied medicine in France, but his truest passion was politics. He was a political activist from the moment he was a student, and that spirit lived with him forever. I admire politicians like the man revealed in the book. He seemed fair and passionate about his various political roles. Politicians are often painted with the same, filthy brush. Ghoulem seemed like a genuine man, and he was mainly after peace and harmony.

I loved how candid he was about his failures, especially in romance. He was never really successful in relationships. Meeting Titi, his ultimate wife, changed his romantic life forever. He knew love from her. I loved that their relationship wasn't characterised by their differences but by their love for each other.

I also enjoyed the author's close relationship with President Felix Houphouët-Boigny of Côte d'Ivoire. Even though they had a father-son connection, I felt their love and respect for each other through their many interactions. Ghoulem was the president's personal aide, but they lived like family.

I wanted to find something to highlight as a negative but I found nothing. This memoir is great. From top to bottom, it covers almost every aspect of the author's life. It shows a man who lived on strict principles and honesty. I loved discovering him. I have to rate it 5 out of 5 stars. It was edited exceptionally well, too, which I was impressed by.

I recommend the memoir to those who enjoy nonfiction books, political themes, and memoirs. It is simply one of the best memoirs I've ever read.
