The book Deceit by Vernon Baumrind is a heartbreaking story, and considering that this is a narration of real-life events that occurred back in 1978, although many years have passed, evokes an emotion of shock. You'd only wish that these events occurred in a movie. Speaking of which, the storyline is really rich enough to make a best-selling movie.

This is a story of betrayal when Baumrind finds out that his wife, Linda, of 12 1/2 years, has been cheating on him with her gynecologist. This explains her odd behaviour lately, as she has been acting distant and cold towards him. Baumrind finds solace in their two children, and he really devotes himself to a mission to secure their custody if the current situation leads to a divorce.

Baumrind's story really does prove the power of the pen, as he really does bring out the themes of love and loss. The brazen and outrageous behaviour of the antagonists in this story is out for the reader to see. There's a lesson too. Integrity does pay off, and that was my greatest takeaway. This book's plot is thick. I was glued to my screen for the entire length until I got to the last page. It really would fit a crime thriller plot.

I did not come across any grammatical errors, so the editing was done satisfactorily. For making these real-life events so intricately relatable and captivating while maintaining the intent of the story, I give this book a full rating of 5 out of 5 stars. The downside, however, is that I had to put up with sexually explicit content, which during the court proceedings was referred to as filth by Vernon's lawyer.

This story reminds me of Johnny Depp Vs Amber Heard case which happened quite recently in the year 2022. I would recommend this book to a mature audience only to the extent that the details here relate to the privacy and sacredness of marital affairs.
