"Deceit" by Vernon Baumrind is a gripping horror story that extends beyond its pages into real life. It unveils a tale that unfolds in the real world of genuine individuals. The narrative kicks off with an American dream scenario where a young couple ties the knot after a college romance. They embark on building a life together, with the arrival of two children fulfilling their dream. Though he marries his soulmate, it's evident she doesn't reciprocate the same sentiment. Cracks start to form in their shared life's foundation. This idyllic setup turns into a metaphorical Garden of Eden, invaded by a cunning and deviant serpent that exploits these vulnerabilities.

Vernon Baumrind pens an intensely private and unfiltered account of his experiences with infidelity. His storytelling is undeniably engaging, delving not only into the impact of adultery on an individual but also on the family unit and society at large. The book doesn't just explore the effects of infidelity but also examines its aftermath on the entire family and even on society itself. His candid depiction of his wife's affair with a doctor, complete with intimate and graphic language, is amazing. These components of the novel were what appealed to me.

Despite the betrayal, Vernon deserves credit for maintaining his family's unity in the face of his wife's selfish actions. His strength and character shine through in his efforts to keep his family intact. The book is well edited, which adds to its appeal.

The author of this book shares his personal experiences during a difficult time in his life. He writes about the breakdown of his marriage and the impact it had on his children. While it is understandable that he is going through a lot of pain, I felt that he did not take full responsibility for his role in the situation. He also seemed to be targeting readers in our community who he believed would support him, which I found to be a bit manipulative. These were the aspects of the book that I didn't enjoy.

In conclusion, "Deceit" by Vernon Baumrind receives a 5 out of 5 rating from me. Despite the negatives, which were only matters of personal opinion, this was a perfectly written work. The exceptionally meticulous editing also enhances the reading experience, and the lessons drawn from Vernon's story are invaluable. This book is recommended for mature readers and married couples alike.
