In her memoir, Prozac Nation, Elizabeth Wurtzel details her struggle with depression throughout her adolescence and how it affected herself and the people around her. I thought her articulation of what it feels like for a person who is depressed to go about their daily lives was outstanding. For the first time in a long time, I felt someone was talking about depression in a way that didn't seem cheesy or overdone. Wurtzel gave an account of depression that was raw and cut deep. At some points throughout the novel, Wurtzel was able to put me in the moment with her so much that I actually went through a version of the feelings she was describing. When an author is able to incite such deep empathy that the reader physically feels what is being described with words on the page, the book as the power to change the reader's life. If you are someone who is clinically depressed or if you are someone who is trying to understand a friend or family member going through depression, I recommend you pick up a copy of this memoir! :techie-studyingbrown:

Thank you for this review Katerina. It sounds like a valuable book to help people better understand what depression is really like on a day to day basis.
