As we brace for a possible wave of COVID-19 this winter, at least we have vaccines and Paxlovid now. But what if an infection develops into the post-viral syndrome long COVID? I know of people who are still debilitated by that.

Jean-Jacques Schoch, the author of Healing Long COVID Naturally, became afflicted by that syndrome early in 2021, suffering for months with symptoms like chest pains, heart palpitations and exhaustion following exertion. A previously fit man whose quality of life was severely impacted by the condition, he joined online support groups and combed through scientific research to find a way forward.

Through trial and error, he devised a treatment regime that worked for him. He has applied for a patent for his Schoch Protocol, which he has also shared in full in Healing Long COVID Naturally. He identifies eight key factors in long COVID, including damage to the immune system and organs by the coronavirus. He then provides full information on how to address these, mostly with plant-based supplements whose functions include flushing virus remnants from the body and supporting its healing and repair.

This book will be of tremendous value to long COVID sufferers because Schoch gives them everything they need to follow his Protocol. He stresses that he is not giving medical advice and that readers must consult a doctor - always a crucial disclaimer in a book like this, so I welcomed that. He could also have confirmed that he has no affiliation with the manufacturers of the supplements recommended. So far from peddling vague pseudoscience, Schoch references evidence-based research, complete with links so that readers are a click away from further information.

As mentioned, though, the book does lay out the entire Protocol, exploring its aspects from different angles. Though some thought clearly went into the organization of the material, I wonder if some of the information currently buried in appendices might merit a more prominent position. The book was somewhat repetitive; although this is normal in non-fiction, cross-referencing could improve it. Notes could then point readers to sections with more information about a particular topic. This would be particularly helpful given that readers might dip into a book like this rather than reading it from cover to cover.

Along with the addition of cross-references, this book would benefit from another round of proofreading to flush out some remaining typos. I deducted one star from the rating in that connection, but I certainly don't need to go any lower because the errors were not severe and this book is an informative, comprehensive resource. Schoch has truly shared all he knows about the state of the science on this subject. So I rate this book four out of five stars. It will be of interest to long COVID sufferers as well as scientists and medical professionals who might take the opportunity to discover new avenues for research into the power of plant-based medicines.

I don’t think that COVID has been around long enough for enough research to have been done on its lasting effects. While I’m glad that these processes worked for the author, I don’t know if the same things will work for others. Thanks for the review!

You're right - there's a lot we still don't know. The Protocol is really focused on supporting the body in healing itself.

I do not know much about COVID because I've never seen or come close to a COVID case, but I'm confident this book will be helpful in research. I don't have much to say about the book, but I learned a lot from your writing style and would love to learn from it and elevate the quality of my reviews :).

It can be nasty, especially the long form. Thank you for your kind comment!

The COVID matter is one of the complex and still not solved matters in the society. I hope this protocol works for the rest of the COVID sufferers and the world. The book can be a great help to scientists in this specific group and to us readers too. Thanks for your engaging review!

Thanks for your comment! Yes, it was about long COVID specifically. Hopefully this will help support people in recovering faster.

I don't know what kind of protocol the author presents in his book to fight the aftermath of COVID on patients' health, but I witnessed many people who struggled to regain their health after their recovery and others who felt healthy only to die suddenly due to acute strokes as an abrupt complication to this virus. I hope the author figured out a way to avoid both cases. Thanks for this skillfully analyzed review!

I have always been an advocate for Natural remedies in healing the body. Here in Africa, we depend on those a lot. My mom and sister had COVID-19 and recovered using only herbs and natural remedies. It's great to see research and compilations on this topic already that way, people are well informed on what might just be a remedy for not just COVID but other diseases too. Great review.

Expressing the experience is not a bad thing, and it is good that the author mentioned that he does not prescribe a medical advice, but the topic itself is still very ambiguous for me to judge that an experience can be suitable for anyone other than its owner. The review is beautiful and of course wonderful.

I think this book is the best solution to COVID but it may not be good for some people with COViD,I think should emphasis on is book whether it will be useful to everybody regardless of their age.

"Healing Long COVID Naturally" by Jean-Jacques Schoch offers a comprehensive protocol for long COVID sufferers based on the author's personal experience and scientific research. While informative, the book could benefit from improved organization and cross-referencing. It's a valuable resource for those dealing with long COVID and researchers exploring plant-based remedies.
