Review of Winning the War on Cancer
Winning The War on Cancer: The Epic Journey Towards a Natural Cure by Sylvie Beljanski is a nonfiction book about her father’s scientific research and findings about cancer and the use of holistic methods of curing cancer. The author’s father was Mirko Beljanski (PhD) and his discovery of the importance of reverse transcriptase in the world of biology led to a bitter rivalry between him and his senior colleagues at the Pasteur Institute. His groundbreaking research led to the crumbling of the central dogma about DNA. Dr. Beljanski also discovered the link between environmental toxins and cancer and developed an efficient test for determining the presence of carcinogens in products called the Oncotest.
The author discusses the plant extracts her father discovered, the Pao Pereira extract and the Rauwolfia vomitoria extract, and their effectiveness in completely eradicating pancreatic and ovarian cancer stem cells in various scientific experiments without demonstrable toxicity to healthy cells. She discusses cancer stem cells and their role in causing relapse and metastasis of cancer, and she emphasizes the need for cancer treatment to target cancer stem cells to ensure a cure.
Sylvie Beljanski details the battle by pharmaceutical industries to stop treatment with these extracts, which they regard as natural unpatentable remedies. She discusses her personal story as the daughter of a brilliant researcher and her determination to continue his work after his death. Readers can learn from the author’s resilience and gut. She faces a lot of opposition in her quest to continue her father’s research and is undeterred by the fact that she is outside her comfort zone (law). She gathers so much knowledge in this expert field of medicine that she can collaborate with medical scientists and present the research findings of her team at seminars and workshops for health professionals and oncologists.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and, in my opinion, there was nothing to dislike. However, I feel that people who are not medically inclined might find the amount of scientific information provided a bit overwhelming. Orthodox medical practitioners may find the information uncomfortable, but this may help them consider the inculcation of research–based alternative medicine remedies into their practices.
Winning The War on Cancer: The Epic Journey Towards a Natural Cure is a useful addition to medical school and hospital libraries. I recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about cancer, which is becoming a very common disease in our world today. I think this book was professionally edited, as errors were minimal. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was informative and interesting.
