Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement is a nonfiction book written by E. Alan Fleischauer. The author has been employed in the financial services for over twenty years. He has a strong history in the financial sector, which ranges from being a venture capitalist to a financial advisor, and a merchant banker, just to mention a few. His professional and educational background is highly impressive. He is a Certified Financial Planner and a Chartered Financial Consultant and these are only two of his numerous qualifications.
According to Cambridge Dictionary to reconfigure something is "to arrange or put together something in a new or different way." The book is based on the premise that the author sees a "chasm" in the American way of life, presently, between tradition and reality. He notes that a large percentage of the American population is now living longer lives compared to previous generations. He believes that people must financially plan for this new reality of longer life spans, as well as, the possibility of changing careers as they get older. In this book, the author discusses Reconfigurement Financial Planning and the various means that a person can use to plan ahead.
There were several things I appreciated about this book. First of all, I found the book to be a wealth of information regarding finances. As a financial advisor, the knowledge provided would come from his years of experience, therefore making it more valuable. I liked how each chapter dealt with a specific topic. This made it easier to read through the entire book while focusing on one topic at a time, and not get bogged down. He also included several resources that the reader could use, such as websites for; aptitude tests, budget planning, recommended reading lists, and a few more helpful resources. Additionally, the jokes that were included in each chapter were a nice touch. This helped to lighten the reading experience.
I can't say there was anything negative about the book. The only thing to be considered is the nature of the topics covered. Their complexity may require a longer reading time for some people. It took me some time to process the things being discussed. I also had to read at a slower pace to fully grasp some of it. Even though some of the topics were complex, the author presented them well. The grammar and punctuation were excellent, which made it an easier reading experience.
I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars. It was very well written and discusses financial topics everyone could benefit from. I would recommend this book to those between the ages of forty and up. I think they would greatly benefit from the financial planning perspectives presented in this book. I believe this book would be especially beneficial to those concerned with preparing for themselves and their loved ones a healthy financial future. Those individuals who might be considering a future career change may also find it useful.
