Review of Niching Up
Niching Up by Chris Dreyer is an informative self-help book about internet marketing and the importance of specializing in a particular field. Starting with his own experiences, Chris talks about search engine optimization and attributes his success to niching up. Through examples and anecdotes, he explains niching and lists the benefits of niching. Contrary to common practices, he deals first with the cons of niching up: a smaller market, waste of time and money, more competition, lack of diversity, industrial risk, product perfection, increased effort, and sacrifice for buyers. He then discusses the pros, or benefits, of niching up and explains how important it is to have awareness, experience, and expertise before making a decision to choose a niche. He also distinguishes between perceived and actual expertise and describes actual expertise as a result of the application of education in a particular field.
The process of collecting data and its effective use in pricing one's products and services is crucial, and the author emphasizes these facts. Next, he talks about conversation and conversion—conversation is all about building trust and reputation, which in turn leads to better sales conversions. Consistently collecting data and testimonials leads to referrals. Time management and being strategic are also important.
I liked the author's approach to the topic the most. He first deals with the cons of niching up, thus preparing the readers for what to expect, what to avoid, and how to benefit from this knowledge. He then comes to the benefits, discussing each in detail. I also liked his discussion of referrals—the three types—and how referrals, even to a competitor, are beneficial for a business. The importance of building relationships and improving efficiency has also been emphasized.
The author's long experience in a niche field has made the contents authentic and useful. The simple, interesting language with examples, quotes, and metaphors is interesting and keeps the reader engaged. The editing is excellent, and the book is absolutely free of errors. There is nothing negative about the book, and there is no reason not to give it a perfect score. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
This is an authentic book written by a successful entrepreneur, and I believe it will be very helpful in increasing sales of products and services. I would recommend it to people working in internet marketing, especially beginners.
