Review of Addressing Systemic Discrimination by Reframing the Problem
Addressing Systematic Discrimination By Reframing The Problem is a well written book whose insightful content is based on researched cases of microaggration. Dr. Frank L. Douglas ' rich educational background has alot to do with his ability to write this book so coherently. Tracing his childhood experiences from Guyana, he then found himself dealing with racism in Academia and Industry in the United States.
Motivated by two events, firstly, the sight of the horrific murder of George Floyd, and secondly, his subsequent reflection on cases of racism against black Americans, with which he had been involved, the author went further into research, and gathered vital facts by interviewing the affected individuals. Dr. Frank L. Douglas gives special thanks to Bernice Lowe, Sandra Haynes, and Levern McElveen for identifying most of the interviewees whose cases were selected for presentation, Frank LA Saracina for his support with graphic representations and assignments of microaggressions.
His research results showed that many of the voices of the aggrieved individuals, in the United States, were not heard, and their pain remained unfelt. As a result, the author created Safe Haven Dialogue(SHD) to empower the aggrieved individuals to have a dialogue with their supervisors in order to find a solution that would increase productivity and profitability in their department. His train of thought further evolved to think about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) as indispensable components to achieving work, and life satisfaction respectively.
I love this book, more especially the sample of cases of the research, some of which I have experienced before, but, unfortunately, I didn't have my grievances heard. You have to read the whole book for yourself to find out more about how to deal with Discrimination, microaggration, micro assaults, and micro invalidation which adversely affect performance, productivity, and profitability in many organizations.
This book is a good read for adults in almost all spheres of life. It was edited professionally, so I found neither typos nor grammatical errors. I literally enjoyed reading every bit of the book.
Therefore, I give it a rate of 5 out of 5.
