Selecting and focusing on a niche in business is an idea that is brought up frequently in the entrepreneurial space. To a business owner, the advantages of selecting a profitable niche and sticking to it are numerous. However, there are also disadvantages to choosing a niche that are seldom discussed. There are some who don't know whether choosing a niche is the right move for them or their business. In addition, some who want to choose a niche do not know what niche to focus on, or how to optimise it so that such a move is better for their business ultimately.

In Niching Up, Chris Dreyer introduces the topic of selecting a niche in business. He tells us the difference between diversification and niching in business and the importance of niching in the business world today. Dreyer also describes the drastic change in revenue his business experienced when he finally selected a niche. Divided into 8 chapters, this book discusses the cons of selecting a niche in one chapter and its pros in the other chapters along with pieces of advice on how to do it the right way.

I enjoyed reading this book for many reasons. I liked reading the stories. I also liked the sport and film analogies that the author used to get his points across especially the one about Harry Potter. In addition, the books referenced by the author intrigued me so much that I plan to read most, if not all of them. I also liked how the author called this concept niching 'up' instead of niching 'down', which is what I'm more used to hearing. This subtle change reinforces the idea that niching takes you up in business. In addition, I liked that the author discussed some of the disadvantages of selecting a niche as this area is overlooked by many who teach this concept.

The book was edited so well that I could not find a single grammatical or typographical error. This made reading easy and pleasant for me.

I liked so many things about this book and disliked nothing about it. Therefore, I rate it five out of five stars.

Those who are just starting out in their entrepreneurial journey, as well as those who want to gain more revenue in business and provide more value will benefit immensely from reading this book. Those who are not interested in business, entrepreneurship or nonfiction books in general may not enjoy reading this book.
