Review of Why God Allows Evil and Suffering
Why God Allows Evil and Suffering by Sine Nomine is a book on Christian theology that discusses belief in God and the questions raised by atheists. The author begins with three contradictory propositions: that God is all-powerful, that God is all-loving, and that evil and suffering exist. Privation, pain, and suffering have been discussed in detail to bring out the full understanding of evil. The free will argument states that humanity suffers because of the misuse of free will, but it fails to explain why innocent people, especially children, suffer through illness or accidents.
The author discusses love between God and man and lists the prerequisites of love. It is emphasized through excerpts from the Bible that evil and suffering are necessary for fallen humanity to experience love with God and with each other. The ancient problem of evil is redefined on the basis of the Bible and various excerpts from Genesis. The book explains how God is all-powerful, all-loving, all-just, all-wise, and prefers love before justice. It analyzes them all before it justifies the existence of pain and suffering. The second part of the book is about creation, fall, and timeless being as explained in Genesis.
The account of life in Eden, the tree of good and evil, and the forbidden fruit are analyzed, leading to the conclusion that the progeny of Adam and Eve are sinful beings who are subject to the eternal penalty for sin, and how faith, love, and sin relate to man’s ultimate fate. The author has also talked about catechism, salvation, and divine justice. The main differences between Protestants' and Catholics' interpretations of the Bible have been made evident. The Bible is established as the book about man's moral life that stresses the divine consequences of man's selfishness and decision-making ability.
The book gives an insight into Christianity and helps understand the Bible. The Holy Trinity and God's love and forgiveness of sins are explained in the light of the Bible. Throughout the book, the author has quoted from the holy book and discussed the excerpts. It is an exceptionally well-edited book and contains no errors at all. There is nothing negative about this book, and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
Although the book is written from a Christian's perspective, it is an excellent book for all believers and atheists alike to contemplate the existence of God and his decision to allow evil to exist. I would recommend this book to people interested in theology and the preaching of the Bible.
