The existence of pain and suffering in the world is a reality that keeps many up at night. Why would a powerful and loving God allow children and other innocent people to suffer from diseases, plagues and natural disasters? This is a question that philosophers and theologians have attempted to answer for ages. This is also a question that has caused many to abandon their belief in God, forsake religion and become atheists.

Why God Allows Evil and Suffering by Sine Nomine is a book that attempts to answer the question of why there is evil and suffering in the world from a philosophical and theological perspective. As part of its introduction, the author briefly goes over some of the solutions to this question that others have presented and gently debunks them. In the first part of the book, the author presents a unique four-part philosophical problem about the nature of God and the definition of evil and pain. In the second part of the book, the author gives his explanation using the doctrines of the Christian faith and the Biblical texts to support his point of view.

I enjoyed reading this book for so many reasons. Firstly, it was very obvious that the book was edited professionally. I did not find a single grammatical or typographical error while reading it. This made the book pleasant for me to read. Secondly, the author wrote this book using conversational language, which made it quite easy for me to read and digest the book's content. I appreciated this fact particularly because many books with intellectual discourse are usually written in scholarly or convoluted language that makes understanding difficult. Thirdly, I liked that the author chose to present his own ideas about such an important but difficult topic. Even though the author's answer to this problem is rooted in Christianity, the writing style of the author is such that anyone can read this book and benefit from it. While there were some things I did not agree with, I learnt so much from this book and enjoyed it even though I'm not a Christian.

There was nothing I disliked about this book. For the aforementioned reasons, I rate this book five out of five stars.

Anyone who has wondered about the problem of evil, pain and suffering in the world will benefit from reading this book if they come with an open mind regardless of their faith inclinations. Those who have an aversion to discussions about God, the Christian faith or the Bible may not enjoy this book.

I think that many of us may have had this question at one point or the other. I would love to read about the author's take on the matter.
