THE NARROWER THE MARKET, THE BIGGER THE PRIZE
NICHING UP

By CHRIS DREYER

I have given this book a rating of 5 stars out of 5. The author delivered what he said he would in this book. He was upfront and honest about the book's features, and throughout the book, he demonstrated the practical application of his philosophy.

The book is quick to read, and due to its editors, there was no stumbling over misspelled words or grammar that diverted my attention from the book's contents.

The book is intended for a younger adult audience, as I will elaborate later.

In the book's introduction, the author outlines what readers should not expect from the book and explains his teaching style. The opening quickly helped me to understand that it was not a step-by-step guidebook and that I was in store for some storytelling. I was very eager to read this book. The title intrigued me. I wanted to read how I could improve my business by niching up. After reading the book, I understand how this philosophy can be effective in certain types of companies, but it does not apply to mine. However, the book did help me expand my thinking about narrowing my market share, which motivated me to examine my business from a different perspective, and it is a good thing whenever you can see things in a new light.

The author implemented his philosophy of niching up in the style in which he wrote this book.
The author niched up the type of audience he wanted to reach. The author references video games, sci-fi movies, and terminology aimed at a younger audience than myself. The author's storytelling to make his point was not relatable to me, a mature adult.

Even though I did not see how this strategy translated to my business, I greatly appreciated the author's willingness to share books by other authors that helped him on his journey—again, demonstrating another strategy he mentions in the book: referrals. The author practices what he writes.

Thanks to this book, I now have more leads to pursue that could enhance my business. I am excited to get started on the books highlighted in Niching Up. I am pleased that I read this book.
