Review of Purpose
“Purpose” is the strikingly impressive life journey of the author of how while living with the fruit orchard town, Cupertino’s small-small communities built-up by her grandparents, mother & teacher father, she crystallizes her dream idea into a lifelong purpose of developing these communities-cum-organizations into social networking sites through new technologies which ultimately would navigate more people towards finding their purposes in lives using a simple flow chart methodology called ‘Community Design Plan’ following the rules of ‘Community Design Agreements’. As the CEO at Mighty, the author emphasis on working in a framework called Community Design, and leaning onto the tried-and-true methods using the power of digital to create change and move forward with purposes. However, practicing ‘Daily’ is the mantra, i.e. Rethinking Purpose throughout the life.
The author has gradually developed the co-relation between need of purpose defining moment which gives the direction and mojo to march ahead in life, and implementation by creating a digital cultural world via social media on internet platform, as in the third step, after deliberating each step of her own life with relevant examples of her own success in building “cultural software” into the digital communities in this modern world. Honouring our present, author genuinely imagine herself and others in 2030, eight years from now whence writing this book, she imagined a world guided by purpose when sewn and propelled by thread of cultural software on digital platforms offering novelty, excitement, creativity, safety, something deeper and more interesting. As per author above is achievable but with definite pre-defined steps – Firstly working on Purpose-30, secondly making Future Story Template following our own future story as a guiding new north star,
In the author’s upbringing since 1950, right from the tender age of eleven, these close-knit communities throughout her life’s highs and lows remained predominant and served as the source of varied purposes, interests, passions, goals, talents, fun and also the clear intention of her time which helped her paving the futuristic way in forging deep motivation in as a supporting role that she could play in other’s pursuit of purpose and community. This was time of birth of Apple Computer in Cupertino, California which later became the Apple Computers headquarters. Then came “World Wide Web”, a moment before Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Cryptocurrency using this Ning Networking under name of “Satoshi” and ‘Myspace’, a chaotic free-for-all to name a few. The author used new technologies and the brilliant minds of the field to develop one’s own social network and launched the idea focusing whole universe through the company “Ning”, meaning peace in Chinese. Later its new version came with name, “Ning Networks” with a promise of “your own social network for anything”. Its overnight wild success attracted about 100 million people around the world through three million Ning Networks from all walks of life and interests with varied passion and purposes, viz., African American church congregations, entrepreneurs, theater fans, artists, teachers, educators, administrators, writers and advocates, etc. to name a few. Regional leaders, state & local officials, Politicians and political parties also started building their own social networks. Barack Obama had also spent millions in creating his own site as MyBarackObama.com using Myspace. Also Cryptocurrency sprang using this Ning Networking under name of “Satoshi” and “dot-com” companies emerged in San Francisco marking further developments in the field.
The author, Gina Bianchini of the book “PURPOSE”, is in first-person narration which imparts a deep impression and a feeling of real that the incidents-examples-people mentioned are the testimony of the procedural book presented in front of us as an action guide into digital a futuristic realm. She has also quoted the availability of the power to design and scale new digital cultures that will put our purpose into action quickly. And she could achieve it through a regular practice of asking questions to self to re-think her purpose, updating & experimenting with ever changing tastes, languages & cultures of people or communities joining. The storyline has minimal mentioning of characters who have accompanied the author during her life journey. The book is written in fluent and vivid communicative English without exhaustive spelling errors or grammar mistakes.
The book is of enough length creating ample of interest right from the beginning till end, and author has smartly projected in the book, the targeted end results vis-à-vis digital world prior to the step-wise methodology to achieve it to impress the readers. The book seems relevant in tuday’s digital world also, as it endorses all new technologies of the digital world to create our future, and as the result, masses of all age groups and all walks of life are moving ahead universally in the form of digital communities amassing further the seeds of new technologies like, using Artificial intelligence and Machine learning for connecting in new innovative ways. I have personally chosen to give the book a rating of “five out of five” because of continuous efforts in creating interest amongst the readers right up to the end, discussing at the end of each step its significance w.r.t. ultimate goal of developing positive ideas that possessed the space and support to live a hero’s journey against the cynicism that killed them in the past and the book relevancy in tuday’s digital world for all genres.
