[Following is the official OnlineBookClub.org review of “Sammy Davis Jr. The Writer Who Saved His Estate” by Pamela Sherrod.]

Sammy Davis Jr. The Writer Who Saved His Estate is the non-fiction account of the battle to win back his estate by Pamela Sherrod. This book covers the struggles for Altovise Davis and Sherrod as they try to win back the estate. In this interesting book Sherrod gives Altovise the courage to fight in order to win Sammy’s estate back. Many people know about the Davis estate problems yet this book brings it to life in a way you have never heard before.

Sherrod, throughout the book, works with Altovise, her close friend, in order to save the estate of Sammy Davis Jr. . From 2005 until 2009 the book follows the two women, and their relationship with others, through different locations within the United States. The book however mainly focuses on Altovises struggle, with family members, friends and managers, which surround her husband’s estate. Finally in the end Altovise decides to stand up for herself but the reader has to wonder is it too late.

Throughout Sherrod’s story the reader also meets a sea of characters including managers, friends, daughters, and roommates. These characters, the reader meets, have either hindered or helped Altovise in some way whether big or small. Throughout the twists and turns Sherrod is always by her side. Eventually Sherrod helps Altovise to discover the true motives behind these characters, whether good or bad, for better or worse.

I found this book to be well written and very interesting. However if you are a reader searching for a story about Sammy Davis Jr. this is not the right one for you. What the reader would expect from this title is not what you will get from the book. A better title for this book would be Altovise Davis: The Writer Who Saved Her Estate. Although there were a few references to Sammy Davis Jr. I cannot say to the reader that this book was about him.

While I found this story very interesting I was very disappointed by the subject matter. It was far from what was expected. Therefore I will have to give this book 3 out of 4 stars. I would have given it three and a half stars if it had actually focused on Sammy Davis Jr. as the title implied.
