Sometimes people set out to achieve their life's dream, as in the case of this book, "Worthy: The Memoir of an Ex-Mormon Lesbian." Chris Davis recounts her life experiences, in which she was practically forced by society to live a life that was contrary to her desires.

It is critical for a memoir to successfully convey the writer's thoughts and feelings to the reader; the words in this memoir contribute to this efficiently. The chapters had appropriate titles and began with at least one childhood story, drawing the reader into her world and making them live vicariously through her words. Davis clearly adored her grandmother, and the feeling was mutual. Her grandmother's "Jordan Eye" story was especially memorable. This author's narrative prowess was evident, which contributed to the story's immersive effect.

Davis was abused by her stepfather as a child and faced prejudice because of her gender and sexual orientation. This book expertly blended tragedy with lighthearted moments to capture these aspects. I liked how she expressed her rage and sadness through her words, making me understand how she felt as a member of the Latter Day Saints church under the leadership of hypocritical leaders. She chose to pursue her happiness, demonstrating that it is not always wrong to be selfish in certain situations. Although it is admirable to be a well-liked member of society, Davis' story demonstrates that it is even better to be happy while doing so.

I have no major complaints about how this book was written, and because I found no errors, I give it a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. The author's feelings were accurately expressed, and while the church and others were blamed for her unhappiness, this was only her point of view and was not worth deducting any points for. I believe people who are on a similar path will find inspiration in this book. This is where one would learn how this woman chose her happiness over what others thought of her. It is worth noting, however, that sensitive topics such as suicide were discussed, so readers who are not comfortable with such topics should proceed with caution.

No one should be a victim of prejudice because of their sexual orientation. It's even more painful when it comes from family. There are so many people like Davis out there. I pray the find love and acceptance. Thank you for the review.
