Review of Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book
Play Golf Better Faster: The Golf Bag Book From Weekend Golfer to Pro Golfer in Two Years by Kalliope Barlis is an enjoyable handbook. The author suggests that readers keep the book in their bags and refer to it whenever they need motivation. Its 114 pages are filled with tips and encouragement. Part one is about using your brain, part two discusses practicing golf, and part three deals with playing golf. The author’s intention is to show readers that the potential to play better golf lies within them, not in expensive golf equipment. She explains how our minds are the most important equipment we need. The key is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic programming). If we change the way we think, we will change our behaviour. This book offers us the skills to influence and control our thoughts and memories.
Readers are encouraged to reflect on each golf shot they make. The aim is to anchor the good shots and how they achieved them in their minds and not focus on the bad ones. Focus on what goes right and consolidate those memories. When we think better, we feel better and when we feel better, we think better. Our unconscious mind will propel our conscious mind forward to greater success.
I liked that the book does not have much technical jargon. I loved the simple message that the better our thoughts are, the better our golf game will be. If you believe you already have all the tools you need to improve your game, it takes the stress away. Indeed, the way we represent what happens in life is often different from the true facts. Our feelings change according to how we think. I liked the fact that these principles can be applied to all areas of our lives.
I also liked the appendix the author included. It gives various illustrations to illustrate certain points, like how to grip the golf club and how to perform various golf swings. The author also gives useful details of how to become an NLP practitioner if readers are interested in delving into this topic in greater depth.
There was nothing I disliked about the book. It was easy and quick to read. The author presented her points clearly and directly. There is nothing I could suggest to improve the book.
The book met my expectations. I did not spot any errors, so it seems to have been edited well. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
I recommend this book to golfers at any level or stage of their golfing journey. The tips and suggestions the author presents are valuable tools to improve their golf game. The message about focusing on positive thoughts and cementing those in your brain can be applied to all areas of life. This means everyone could benefit from reading this book.
