A Voice From Heaven: From Earthly Struggles To Thriving In The Afterlife by Alexander V Girman and Cynthia J Girman is a book about a young man called Alec, who sadly passed away and is communicating through his mother, Cindy, what it is like on the Other Side, in the afterlife and being in the presence of a higher power, God.

Alec says when he was alive he had mental health problems and didn't know how to express his feelings or show love, except to his parents and sister. Because of this, he turned to substances which became an addiction and would eventually cause his death. His parents always feared that this would happen as his biological mother had been a heroin addict and they adopted him when he was a few months old.

His mother Cindy, states in the book that she was incredibly proud of him and all that he had managed to achieve in his short life, despite having ADHD and Asperger's syndrome. The love she felt for Alec was overwhelming and you could feel the sadness coming from her in her words.

As Alec speaks through Cindy, he describes the bright light tunnel that we have all read about and how it draws you in but is not frightening in any way, it is more a comfort. He goes to on to say that he was reunited with ancestors he knew and some he didn't and that everything seemed heightened, colours, sounds, objects, etc., and he saw things that he had not noticed before when he was living and he still had much to learn about himself and the choices he had made.

As I continued reading, my heart broke for Cindy and her family and I tried to put myself in their position, but I couldn't as I have never had to go through what they have. No parent should lose a child. Also I felt sorry for Alec as he was going to miss out on so much and the way he communicated, he had a lot of love to give.

This book talks about God, a higher power and souls and although I am not a religious person, I found it quite interesting and thought provoking and that when we die, it doesn't have to be the end. I have always had a belief and fascination in the afterlife and what comes next and this book has helped me to see that when my time comes, there will be a lot of love on the Other Side to welcome me. I give this book 5 out of 5 and would highly recommend it to anyone who has suffered a loss and wants to know their loved ones are doing okay.
