The book Niching Up by Chris Dreyer can be described as the book for waking up awareness and focus, not only in business but also in matters involving life.

The author starts by introducing the concept of niching, this narrowed focus that needs to be considered to approach any topic using the right amount of resources, analysis, and action to be not just good at it, but to master it. He talks about how specialization is the key to stand out from the crowd. From his experience with card tournaments to sports competitions, and his successful business of SEO (search engine optimization), he explains the importance of being alert and stay focused to understand how things can work out at a higher level if you stay firm with one idea: mastering what you do.

The book has two main parts, the cons of niching is the first one, even if it isn´t as wide as the second part, the reader can understand the other side of the amazing and praised concept in every web page and book referring to the topic, that most of the time they don´t mention the cons. It is interesting to see how the author transforms these cons into opportunities, we just need to be aware of them to work them out correctly.

In the second part of the book, the author explores a variety of topics that intertwine all together while the author tells us his story of his first web page to solve the problem of double chin with a different approach, this is, without mentioning exercise or diet, just an easy beard trick, that yes, it is not the typical solution but is a solution for a specific kind of people, and this is also an important concept here: specificity to solve problems by understanding the particular necessities of the client.

Realizing that expanding can also mean losing focus, the author makes us realize that when niching, yes, you close some doors for a lot of clients, but you open a service for the right people, that means fewer buyers, but as it is a narrowed market, they will be willing to pay more for the specialization that you have, because you will have the service exactly as they want it.

The author talks about the well-known topics of building relationships, reputation, the importance of good competition, passion and dedication, business risks, how to deal with clients that are not right for you, and so on. With his particular approach, the reader can understand the importance of taking seriously each of them, he mentions that a nich means few, with this, it is very easy to get yourself known with all your clients and competition as a good choice or as a bad choice depending on how you build up your reputation and how your mistakes can be awful to it.

It is a good book for people who want a first and easy approach to the niching world and for those who are already on it but want to be aware of the concepts involved with another point of view. I give this book a rating of 5 to 5 because it has a good and clean edition and a good structure to follow through. The conclusion is one of my favorite parts, it is concise, clear, and complete. There is nothing bad about this book, maybe just more examples and details of experiences with clients to ground the concepts that were explained. The author stays real when describing the good and bad things of niching and he also adds some nerdy jokes that fill up the topics with a nice touch.
