Review of Engineering Entrepreneurship from Idea to Business Plan
Paul Swamidasss wrote "Engineering Entrepreneurship from Idea to Business Plan: A Guide for Innovative Engineers and Scientists" in an effort to help new entrepreneurs turn their creative ideas into profitable ventures. The main focus of this book was a seven-phased model of technological innovation, which detailed how to create a perfect business plan. This process was gradually broken down by the book.
This book promised that it would not be overstuffed but would only concentrate on the seven crucial steps, and it kept its promise. One would notice while reading that the book had a goal at the beginning that was upheld throughout. Every phase of the seven-phased model was simplified when it was first introduced, allowing for a better understanding, and the use of straightforward language made each point as clear as possible. These seven steps were later discussed in more detail throughout the book. I admired the author’s commitment to clarifying his ideas so that readers from various backgrounds would not be misled by them.
While making his points, Dr. Paul Swamidass included a lot of examples. The fascinating aspect was the use of case studies from well-known corporations like Apple, Amazon, Yahoo!, Earthlink, and others to support arguments. With the help of these examples, I was able to understand some concepts I had trouble grasping in technical terms. This demonstrates how effective the author is at teaching even the most challenging subjects.
The significance of creating value and safeguarding the intellectual property of the inventor is also clearly explained in this book. It is assumed that readers of this book will not all be experts in business law, and it offers several solutions to that problem. The author demonstrated how any inventor can obtain a pro se patent for their inventions, even without working with a lawyer, by using his experiences as an example. He outlines the conditions, procedures, and actions that must be taken. He never downplayed the difficulties one might encounter, and these small details demonstrated how difficult it is to launch a business. This blunt honesty gave the book some sincerity, which in turn would help the reader understand the type of business they were entering.
The only thing I did not like about this book was that the few illustrations included were all in black and white. I believed that using colored images would have been more beneficial because I found myself browsing through the images without really focusing on their details. The monochrome images and a few typos I found were minor, however, and did not hinder my reading. A perfect 5 out of 5 stars is what "Engineering Entrepreneurship from Idea to Business Plan" deserves. People who are new entrepreneurs and those with ideas they want to turn into a reliable source of income are the exact target audience for this book.
