Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a non-fictional work that delves into the post-retirement phase. Drawing from his 20-year career as a financial advisor, the author's primary objective is to blend the logical and creative aspects of the mind to devise practical solutions. This book equips readers to revamp their lives, regardless of their current life stage. Within its pages, the book discusses the necessity for behavioural and mindset transformations to successfully reconfigure one's life. It provides a structured roadmap and highlights key considerations for a more fulfilling retirement. The book underscores that it's never too late to embark on this journey, though an earlier start is preferable. Additionally, it offers insights on job interviews and backs up its claims with research-based data. Throughout the book, the author employs numerous examples and repetition to reinforce the core concepts he presents.
I found great pleasure in reading this book due to its wealth of information. The author's explanations were exceptionally clear, enhanced by the use of relatable analogies involving cars and sports. Additionally, the author's delightful sense of humour added to my enjoyment, with a plethora of puns and dad jokes, such as, "After years of searching for stable work, I landed a job as a historian, only to discover there was no future in it!"
The book also stood out for its meticulous referencing, with the author providing sources at the end of each chapter, including the references for the pictures used with proper permissions. The inclusion of images throughout the book added vibrancy to the content, making it more engaging. I particularly appreciated the candid assessment of website recommendations in Chapter 3 regarding career aptitude assessments; the reviews felt honest and not overstated. In the final chapter, Chapter 13, the author's valuable recommendations for additional reading materials and websites further enhanced the book, in my opinion. The book was exceptionally well-edited and error-free.
The reason I do not dislike this book is because it proved to be a captivating and enjoyable read, characterized by its accessibility. However, I observed that the book predominantly centred around an American context, which somewhat diminished its intended diversity. I recommend this book to those seeking an engaging, easily understandable read with humour and relatable analogies.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars primarily because it proved to be an exceptionally captivating and enjoyable read, featuring easily comprehensible content. The author's skilful use of relatable analogies and a delightful sense of humour made the reading experience truly engaging. While the book is primarily centred on an American context, which may limit its diversity, its overall qualities warrant a top rating.
