A voice from heaven is pretty much what is said in the title. It captures the concepts of both spirituality and psychology. It follows the story of Cynthia and Tom, who agree to adopt a child, Alec. Alec was not your average baby boy, he had many significant conditions that affected him differently, some of which are Asperges and ADHD. His life is somewhat complicated. Cynthia and Tom did everything they could to ensure he had an amazing upbringing, enabling him to feel secure and comfortable throughout his difficult life. At school, Alec found it troubling, and almost missed his graduation. Despite all of this going on, he still succeeded at one thing: coding. Alec had a keen interest in anything that related to It however things turned sour when Alecs began abused nacostics. It wasn’t drugs that were heavy that he started with, it began with his medication and experimenting with them. Eventually, he knew what he was doing was ruining his life and, therefore, would accept a job in Washington, hoping this would change him. This didn’t happen. His drug taking had now escalated to danger. I.e concerning for those who cared deeply about him. Later on, Alec is communicating with his mother in the afterlife! This book raises questions about the afterlife and what it is like, but what piques my interest the most is what the journey to the afterlife is like. If you’re like me who is interested in the afterlife, you must give this book a read, you will not be disappointed.

Cynthia attempts to communicate with her adoptive son Alec in the afterlife with the objective of understanding his life and why he chose addiction to cope with his life. I think that this book brings out every emotion you could possibly feel because of the way the author describes her experience with mourning the death of her son. This could also relate to some readers who also have experienced mourning someone they held close. The book deepens many emotions and gives them meanings which I like. I like how the author has chosen to explore the topic of addiction because it is not often spoken about, and not everyone knows the consequences of addiction and how it can change a person. Addiction is very easy to get into and hard to get out of, often leading to multiple casualties. The author offers information about the afterlife and what the journey to the afterlife is. They have explored this topic and left it to the audience to conclude whether they agree or disagree with what the author believes.
Also I like how the authors have written in a tone that treads lightly on the themes it speaks out because of how delicate the themes are. This book definitely plays with your emotions and pulls at your heartstrings.

I want to say that I enjoyed this book! It is not very often that I enjoy books that explore religious themes, but this has given me an eye opener and made me wonder whether the journey to the afterlife is an easy ride. I like how the authors have included in their bio ‘fifty percent of the proceeds from the book would be used for research on substance abuse disorders and treatments’. This is a great way to draw in readers because everyone likes to know that money made goes to non-profitable organisations to help fund something that can mean a great deal to someone, right?

There was nothing to dislike about this emotional book. The story was easy to follow and fitted the main purpose of the book well. I could not find any errors, therefore I believe it to be well edited.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I give this rating because of how emotionally attached I was to it. Also, there were no typos which contributed to the full stars too. I would like to offer a recommendation that it would be suited to those individuals who often wonder about the afterlife, and those who struggle with mourning, as I believe this could really help knowing someone else understands what you are going through.
