Review of Reconfigurement
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a non–fiction book that educates on planning for retirement.
As the saying goes “Do not save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving”. We should not only enjoy our lives while we are young and active in the workforce, but we should also plan for our after-retirement life in such a way that we have enough income to fall back on in case of unprecedented circumstances. It is staggering to realize that we work for 8 to 10 hours a day with an unplanned approach to retirement.
There are so many questions that come to mind when we think of life after retirement, but the million-dollar question is: how much money is needed for a comfortable after-retirement life?
The answer will vary. It is different for each one of us and is based on our current lifestyle, as we all hope to maintain the same to a certain extent as we grow older and retire.
If not for lavish shopping sprees and exotic holidays, the savings should keep us comfortable and equipped to meet unforeseen medical expenses. All the better if it allows us to enjoy a break now and then.
This book brings to light the loopholes, if any, in our selection of insurance policies and guides as to which option will serve our needs in a better manner. It also reinforces the facts and clears up the myths surrounding insurance policies, social security numbers, bonds, investment schemes, and so on and so forth.
This reminds me of one incident in which my parents took out an insurance policy. At the time of purchase, the premium was affordable, but later on, the premium cost simply kept multiplying, making them default, resulting in a loss of benefits. Hence, we should understand the payment structure before signing up.
Anything and everything related to money has been addressed. For instance, mutual funds, bonds, insurance, Medicare, and property distribution, like making a will, have legalities included. How to properly manage our savings, select policies, and make investments-the advantages and limitations-have also been covered extensively.
The author has added jokes at the end of chapters to keep us from becoming bored. It’s a very thoughtful and nice way to keep the readers engaged.
This is a great read for those who wish to retire with a decent cash inflow. There is nothing to dislike in this book; hence, I have given it a 5 out of 5 rating. This book has been proofread professionally; hence, no mistakes were made.
