Do you remember your first pet? How would you describe them? How would you recall the moments you spent together? Nine Months by Tania Tomyn tells the story of Wilbur, Tania, and Aaron Tomyn's rescue dog. This is a real-life story that might make you cry, but it will also teach you some valuable lessons about life and unconditional love.

On a June day, Tania and Aaron saw a picture of Wilbur in an email from a friend. They immediately fell in love and started to complete the online application to adopt him. Wilbur was a lovely shih tzu that was rescued from the Pasadena streets. Soon, the couple was on their way to pick him up and bring him back to his new home. But life with Wilbur was not as easy as it had been with Hank, the dog they already had. After several vet visits, sleepless nights, and family trips, the family received dreadful news on a cold mid-November day. Wilbur and his family only spent nine months together, but his memory and the lessons the family learned from him are timeless. When Tania and Aaron adopted Wilbur, they never imagined how much he would change their lives.

I read this book in a single night, and by the time I reached the ending, I was crying. I adopted a lovely rescue puppy last year; she was just two months old when I adopted her and extremely afraid of what was happening, so I could relate to most of the things the author was sharing about their experience. I cannot imagine how my life would be without my sweet Nala, so thinking about how I would deal with everything the author and her husband did broke my heart. The author’s writing style, honesty, and simplicity made this book perfect. Even though it is extremely short (and that is the only negative thing I can say about it—that I wanted to read more about Wilbur), it is filled with emotions, details, and lessons. The author shares that it took her years to be able to finish the book; it was too hard to write it, but I am glad she found the strength to share her story. The book has some pictures of the events being narrated, and I loved seeing Hank, Wilbur, Tanya, and Aaron living an amazing life together.

I cannot give Nine Months by Tania Tomyn a different rating than 5 out of 5 stars. The book is amazing, exceptionally well-edited, and completely free from errors. I recommend it to everyone who has a pet, has lost a pet, or is considering adopting one. This book might make you cry, especially if you are very sensible, but I promise you that it is worth the tears.
