Play Golf Better Faster: The Little Golf Bag Book by Kalliope Barlis is a book that divulges the secrets to be a great golfer. The book provided exercises and techniques to aide players’ minds to be effectively focus while practicing and playing to be successful at the game. It also outlined techniques to focus on before the start of the game, and how to warm up the brain to get better results faster so that players can continue to improve while playing to optimize his or her game. It provides a tool bag of methods for success. Each one of us has the potential to have what we want to achieve in life. What level of golf do you want to play?

I appreciate that author Kalliope Barlis informed readers to be aware that the instructions provided in the book are for right-handed golfers and how to navigate through the instructions while reading. The author also differentiates the meaning of the “brain” and “mind” so readers will not be confused while reading. She also provides delightful encouraging words and quotes to help uplift readers minds in the process. One of my favorite quotes is “Access the knowledge already within you to play great golf.” This motivational quote encourages us to find the courage deep within to let go of our fears and help improves our level of thinking. I learn a lot while reading, for example about the different Swish Pattern for Golfing Excellence, the different angles to practice improving scores, a deeper understanding of the art of golfing and how to improve on our skills. The appendix also has a lot of useful illustrations as guide. Overall, the Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) psychological approach that is used to identify and rewire unconscious thinking and behavior patterns to change the way that the brain reacts psychologically seems to be an effective method that guide many professional golfers to successful game results. It has helped improved the way of thinking, not just visually, but through all our senses, so that a golfer’s performance dramatically improves each time they practice and play, shot by shot.

I did not dislike anything major about the book. Well, except for the empty pages within each section, which pose as a distraction for me. The information and exercises provided in the book was good and beneficial not only for sport but can also be applied in our daily lives. Each one of us has the potential to have what we want to achieve in life by having the right mindset and focus.

I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. The book was condensed and focused mainly on the mental aspects of playing golf game which I think was well demonstrated in the book. It was simple and easy to read even my eight-year-old son was drawn to reading the book. The book was professionally edited, I did not come across any grammatical or typographical errors. There was only one incidence of profanity at the beginning of the book on the forward page.

I recommend this book to all golfers who want to play at their best. The Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) and The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) players will find this book useful in preparation for competitions. I think just about anyone who are interested in golf can read this book. If you are a beginner golfer there is no need to worry, the book is undaunting. It is a simple read. I highly recommend this book.
