Be Brave by D.B. Haire is a compilation of nine modern-day missionary stories. While these stories have a cohesive theme of trusting God in the midst of dire situations, each one is vastly different from the other. For instance, the first story tells us about two men in Asia who embark on a crazy, faith-building adventure after receiving a prophetic dream. It's all pretty fun and exciting until one of the men gets a gun pulled on him. Another story describes a short-term mission trip gone wrong when a hurricane hits. A young girl in the Middle East has to hide her Bible for fear of her father finding out in another story. All of these people turned to God in the middle of their darkest hour and saw the great blessing that comes with perseverance.

This book touches me so deeply. As a Christian living in a foreign country, I have been questioning my purpose here for several years. This book has opened my eyes and caused me to examine my heart. I feel encouraged, inspired, and humbled not only by these incredible stories, but by the amazing God I serve. Never once is the focus taken off of God in this book. I love that He gets all the glory and praise for the miraculous events that occurred.

One central theme I could not help but notice is prayer. Each of these missionaries prayed an awful lot. At times they were praying for their own safety, but usually they were praying for others. They truly drew upon God for strength and did not rely on themselves. This challenges me to seek God more through prayer.

In addition to being full of spiritual truth, this book is extremely well written and I did not notice any grammatical errors. The stories are exciting and there is an element of danger to each of them. I had a hard time putting the book down and stayed up late to read it. I kept telling myself, “Just one more chapter and then I'll go to bed”. Of course, I had to say that many times before I could actually set the book down.

Be Brave definitely earns 4 out of 4 stars from me. In addition to being well written, it is inspiring and encouraging. There is much spiritual wisdom that can be gleaned from these stories which is why I highly recommend it to all Christians. I think it is the type of book that will inspire any Christian, even if they don't live in a foreign country.

Very nice review. Your passion for God and how this book helps to stir the embers to burn bright for Him is quite obvious based on your words. Great job by the author in bringing these stories of faithfulness to everyone.

Wow, glad this book encouraged you. We all need encouragement in life for different reasons. Sounds like an uplifting book - life is not all glamour, particularly for people who are seeking to serve God in challenging circumstances.

Great review Rachaelamb1! And congratulations to the author. I've just added this book to my Want To Read list...it sounds like the kind of collection that is right up my alley! I, too, have been grateful to be able to review Christian books as part of the review team. It's not all sci-fi, crime and romance on the indie scene! As much as I love those genres, there is something special about books that feed the soul and give a different perspective on our faith walk with Jesus. Happy reading!

Thank you so much for bringing these stories to us! I was beyond encouraged by these testimonies of God's faithfulness! There are several phrases in this book that are sticking with me throughout my day. Like, "do you believe God is bigger than your mistakes?" I'm not certain that is exactly how it was phrased in the book, but it definitely helps me keep things in perspective. Again, thank you!
