A Dream for Peace takes us on an enriching journey through the life course of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah.

He was an activist for the Algerian cause while studying medicine in France. In his eventful life, he gained many accolades and got acquainted with world leaders like Mao Zedong, John Kennedy, John Paul II, Yaseer Arafat, and so on.

Dr. Ghoulem was the first scientist to give a hypothesis on “reverse transcriptase enzyme”, which is a factor in enabling specific RNA viruses to induce certain forms of cancer.

He quit his position as a professor to actively participate in Africa’s development, where he had a chance to get acquainted on a very personal level with President Houphouet-Boigny. It has been extensively explained how Dr. Ghoulem has been a close confidante of the President.

He has also played a significant role in the Israel – Palestine conflict. To be in the middle of such a sensitive issue and try to reconcile two traumatized groups of people by initiating dialogue is a mammoth task by itself. This starkly reminds us of the ongoing war and how peace is imperative for all nations.

On the whole, this book sums up the professional and personal life of a diplomat who has faced immense challenges and has overcome them with a classy approach that befits his position.

Be it establishing peace or fighting for a just cause, Dr. Ghoulem has left an imprint in the minds of readers as a person who always strives to do something for fellow human beings.

The fact that Dr. Ghoulem didn’t settle for a fancy life in America but traveled the world working to establish peace shows how he cares for less fortunate countries and their sufferings.

In his eventful life, he circled the world forty times and met many historic leaders who have played an important part in influencing global events. It is disheartening to know Dr. Ghoulem is no more, but his memoir will serve as an inspiration to anybody willing to work for the greater good and strive to make a difference.

I give this story a 5 out of 5 rating, as there is nothing to dislike in this book. The book has been proofread professionally; hence, no mistake was made. Overall, this book is a treat for readers who enjoy reading about the life of a classy diplomat who traveled the world in an effort to persuade people to work for peace.
