The book ‘The Fight for Sleep’ by Thad R. Harshbarger is a guide that will help you get through insomnia and increase sleep quality. The book has treatment maps that are a combination of a flowchart and text. Maps help readers easily grasp the long paragraph of text into little meaningful words. Every flowchart had two choices: yes or no, with further choices like, if you want to drink tea, then if the answer is yes, get the ingredients and make tea, and if not, quit. After each map, the author also described the problems caused by insomnia. He also gave the symptoms that are causing that problem. He also gave a sleep diary, which can help readers track their sleeping patterns, schedule, and quantity of sleep.
As someone who has always had problems with insomnia, this book helps me a lot in understanding and recognizing my sleeping patterns and what causes my sleeping cycles to not work properly. I think this book will help a lot of people with their sleeping issues. This book has a lot of different topics related to chronic insomnia, like how much sleep you need, sleep needs with different ages, dreams, and the effects of sleep loss. The author also writes information about different types of sleep medications, like benzodiazepines, non-benzodiazepines, sedating antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and antipsychotics, their side effects, length of effect, placebo effect, and rebound. The book has many unique features, like a treatment map, flowchart, figures, and a basic sleep diary, which are different from other books.
The editors did a good job with editing. The author wrote very beautifully. I don’t see any drawbacks to the book. It is perfect for me. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I like this book. I gave this book five out of five stars. It is a must-read for insomnia issues.
