"A Dream for Peace" is a memoir that chronicles the remarkable life of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, a man whose journey spans continents, ideologies, and the complexities of diplomacy. The book is divided into 17 chapters, each unfolding a different facet of his life, from his early struggles as a freedom fighter in Algeria to his role as a diplomat advocating for peace on the global stage.

The chapters are well-structured, offering a seamless flow through pivotal moments in the author's life. The narrative takes the reader through Dr. Berrah's experiences at the university, his hardships and imprisonment, his initiation into the struggle in Morocco, and his transformation into a respected scientist in the United States. The call of Africa beckons him, leading to a deep bond with President Houphouët-Boigny of Côte d'Ivoire. Another noteworthy chapter, titled 'Murky Waters of Love,' delves into Dr. Berrah's personal life amid the backdrop of his diplomatic endeavors. It beautifully showcases the author's ability to navigate the complexities of both personal relationships and international diplomacy. The subsequent chapters cover topics such as the plea for peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict, common faith in one unique God, the Cold War, concord in Africa, and diplomacy in Côte d'Ivoire. The author's efforts in initiating dialogues for peace between conflicting nations, as well as his role in Africa's development, reflect a lifetime dedicated to fostering harmony.

"A Dream for Peace" is not only informative but also truly inspiring. I wholeheartedly rate it 5 out of 5 stars. Dr. Berrah's tireless efforts for peace make him a true role model for diplomats. The book is professionally edited, and the prose is beautifully written, ensuring a smooth and engaging read. The inclusion of pictures in the book is nice, as it aids in visualizing the author's experiences. I have no criticisms of the book. However, the book's length, over 600 pages, might seem daunting to some readers.

I recommend "A Dream for Peace" to readers who are interested in diplomatic memoirs and international relations, readers seeking inspiration from individuals dedicated to promoting peace, history enthusiasts intrigued by Africa’s decolonization period, or anyone curious about the personal and professional life of a distinguished diplomat.
