Review of Love Just Is...
Love Just Is... is a satirical romance by Nobody. The author takes us down memory lane to how an American found himself as a temporary worker in France, working his way to acquiring CDI (a permanent employee contract). It all started when he met the love of his life online. She was a gorgeous French woman. They fell hard for each other, and Genesis 12:1-3 affirmed to him that they were destined to be together. He took a leap of faith and relocated to France. 'Dear one' is what the author calls the lover. Everything seems to be perfect for them, but love and marriage is a complicated situation. Will they survive the challenges that are to come? What repercussions will the author face in his new life?
The book is slow at the beginning. The author's tone is nonchalant. He takes jibes at almost everything. His attitude will finally make sense as you continue reading the book. The climax is exhilarating and a definite jaw-dropper. The story happens during the pandemic. I loved his satirical comment on the curfews imposed because I also wondered if the virus spread more at night. The book cuts across themes of international and interracial romance. It also brings to light themes of love, treachery, and narcissistic tendencies.
It took me a while to understand the author's tone of writing, which was somewhat bland, but once I did, I thought the style was genius. He also writes poetically, interchanging between present and past events. I loved the author's discipline in some scenarios and even his composure. However, the author must allocate a fresh page to every new chapter to make them distinct. Sometimes, a chapter would begin at the end of a sentence, which was distracting.
I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars. The book is a vulnerable account of a man valiant enough to tell his story. I found that very commendable. I also thought the poem at the end was a genius addition that ties everything together. The book was professionally edited, but the editing issue denied the book a perfect score. I recommend the book to lovers of drama and romance. The book contains several French quotes, but the author does a great job incorporating even the non-French audience.
