Review of Bedside Chat
What if there was a meditation journal you could reach for before you rest from a long night? What if that journal had powerful messages, affirmations, passages from the Bible, and the author’s personal stories to help strengthen, calm, and rejuvenate your mind? The answers to these questions are what you’ll find by reading Bedside Chat by Gerry J. Tucker. Tucker digs deep into her experiences, her relationship with God, and stories from her friends, family, and clients to provide the enriched meditations, affirmations, bible verses, and journal entities she titles “Let’s Chat” to improve anyone’s lifestyle so that they may rest easy before bedtime.
In this 131-page book, Tucker has written poems and essays filled with powerful lessons to provide words of wisdom. As a life coach, Tucker created a spiritual newsletter, which received positive remarks to inspire this book. Tucker refers to God and quotes Bible verses and personal stories to guide us in conquering challenging issues and living our best spiritual lives. Tucker clarifies that religion and spirituality are different; this book provides comfort, knowledge, and wisdom suitable for everyone. Titles such as Write the Vision, Peace, Hope, and Love,, and Life’s Beach Ball emphasize that life is also about focusing on the positive rather than dealing with harmful stress damaging our spirituality. Tucker also includes and encourages readers to either complete the journal entries or keep a journal beside them as they read the book since some of the meditations might trigger various states of emotion.
There was so much to love about the book. I recommend doing the “Let’s Chat” entries while reading the text. They enhanced my reading experience. There were a couple of meditations that stood out to me, such as Licking My Wounds Still and On Becoming Myself. Reading these passages could not have come at a better time, and after reading them, I slept well that night. I also applaud Tucker for having the book’s focus be spirituality rather than religion, with too much preaching. Everyone can relate to these meditations, affirmations, and stories, no matter who they are. You can read this book as many times as you like and refer to it whenever you need it, even if you have completed all of the journal entries, and the text gets better each time you read it.
However, I do have a critique. There were some font styles and font colors that made the text difficult to read. I only found one typo in the book, which was professionally edited and well-written. The dislike and typo did not take me away from loving this book. At first, I thought only Christians would be best suited for this book. Still, Tucker brilliantly focuses on spirituality rather than religion, so anyone, even non-believers, can relate to this book. For these reasons, I am awarding this book a rating of a perfect 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to anyone who needs a powerful, spiritual, positive, and valuable companion to say goodnight before bedtime. I am going to subscribe to Tucker’s newsletter. She also provides vital advice to those aspiring to be life coaches, like myself.
