Review of Snatched Up to Heaven!
Jemima Paul and her husband Arvind Paul moved from India to Los Angeles. They live their lives deeply rooted in the Christian faith, and they have instilled the same love of God in their three daughters, Priyanka, Deepika, and Keerthana. Jemima holds a doctorate in Christian Education and has a fascination with heaven.
"Snatched up to Heaven!" by Jemima Paul is an extraordinary account of her daughter's journey to heaven and hell. One morning in May 2011, Priyanka, who was then four years old, excitedly announced that she had a dream in which she and her then two-year-old sister, Deepika, had gone above the clouds to visit heaven. Jemima decided to listen to her daughter's account of her dream and record it for later reflection. To her surprise, Jemima found that although her daughter had a limited vocabulary due to her age, the depth of detail she had provided correlated with many verses from the Bible. In Priyanka's dream, animals walked freely, were respected, and did not fight. There was no conflict between people living in heaven. These detailed reports prompted Jemima to write this book. She was amazed to discover that her daughter's account was in line with scripture in the Bible. Jemima wondered whether her daughter's dreams were visions and decided to record them in the precise words of her young daughters.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It takes courage to give validity to the words of a young child in the face of skepticism. Often, we do not believe that children hold answers to things, but perhaps their innocence allows them to hear clearly when Jesus speaks to and through them. The videos and illustrations by Priyanka and Deepika that accompany the book lend a deeper appreciation to the story and allow the reader to hear firsthand what the children experienced. I found the fascinating side-by-side analysis of the difference between heaven and hell viewed through Priyanka's dreams compelling. I enjoyed that Jemima also gives advice based on the Bible on how to live more authentically as a Christian.
I found nothing to dislike about the book. However, I can see how Jemima could potentially face backlash from those who do not believe that the words of a child carry much weight.
I would recommend this book to anyone open-minded and interested in hearing more about the word of God. The writing style and editing are exceptional. I enjoyed the openness of the topic and for these reasons, I can confidently give this book five out of five stars.
