Exceptions to Their Rule by Richard S. Sloan revolves around the tribes of Wabanaki and Basques and their histories dating back centuries. The aristocracy in France and England and the impact they have had over the years.

The Wabanaki, also known as the people of Dawn, and the Basques came into contact over the centuries after years of living oblivious to each other. Though similar in some ways but still distinct in tradition and culture, these cultures undergo changes even as the world around them changes. A famous man is exposed for his deceitful and evil acts.  Slowly, the presence of the English and French kingdoms began to be felt. With bloodshed, power tussles, and corruption, the aristocracy takes the world by storm, exploiting lands and colonizing people. The church plays an even less admirable role, used by rulers and feeding off the hardworking people. In this book, the author asks some pertinent questions. Whys and why nots.

One strength of this book is the abundance of details in it. The author provided very detailed notes, markings, dates, quotes, coordinates, and even maps. I believe this would be very helpful for readers. The author also included references from various other works and articles, and I did find them all enlightening. Also, the author's choice of words was impeccable. The author was able to use fitting words for each part of the book, whether it was in ancient or contemporary English. The book was also exceptionally edited, and I couldn't find any errors in it.

With the wealth of knowledge available within this book, this is a really educating book; therefore, I would give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. This book has no notable negatives.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves books about history and wants to know more. And also to anybody interested in the aristocracy and their ills.
