Book Review by Manisha Sumant of ‘Niching Up’ by Chris Dreyer

Every business is built around a niche more or less. It is a kind of pre-requisite. Then what is so special about this book, ‘Niching Up’ by Chris Dreyer.
The book is about deliberate, focused and mindful niching instead of just looking at your niche as a pre-requisite.

Chris Dreyer, studied History in college and landed his first job as a detention room supervisor for a local high school. In other words, he had no formal training about running a digital marketing agency.
The author describes how he came to realize why focused niching is important for the growth of a business while also keeping in mind certain disadvantages or cons of niching up.

‘Niching Up’ by Chris Dreyer is a first-hand account of the author’s foray in the business world and the insights he gained which helped his company, ‘Rankings.io’ to hit the top of the industry lists year after year as an SEO agency for the ‘personal injury lawyers’ niche, and which contributed to his company being an Inc. 5000 recipient for five years in a row during the years from 2018 till the point of writing this book.

The book basically underlines the fact that ‘what you focus on grows’. After all, finding your niche and then may be your sub-niche, and then working on it requires a tremendous amount of focusing, consistent actions and upgrading. This is what is explained in detail by the author. The book also highlights how niching up can help you to provide more value to your clients which others can’t.

The book can be a step-by-step guide on how to build a profitable business by finding your particular niche and then becoming an expert in that niche! The author has also provided references to other books or various concepts which can help to enhance one’s study of the market or its various dynamics before niching up.

I will give the book ‘Niching Up’ by Chris Dreyer a 5 out of 5 for its good editing and the way in which the author guides his readers through the process of ‘Niching up’, using his own experiences, insights and some references, thus providing value addition to his readers.
