James F. Love IV's work, System Failure: A Critique of the Judicial System of the United States, is a fascinating read. The author is imprisoned with little to no opportunity to establish his innocence after being wrongly accused of repeatedly sexually abusing his stepdaughter. Even though the court was shown overwhelming evidence that he was two thousand miles away from the claimed incident, he was found guilty and sentenced to four consecutive life terms. He embarks on a mission to reveal the flaws in the American legal system after witnessing countless others suffer from wrong convictions. Set in the early 2000s, the book is a collection of 25 essays and articles that chronicle his experiences with the law and those of his fellow inmates. With sufficient evidence to back his stance, James F. Love IV gives an expert evaluation of the flaws, methods, and mechanisms of the American government. Pick up a copy of this book to find out more.

The book had a lot of positive aspects. I was able to learn new words and improve my vocabulary. I love the fact that the author included references and other sources of information to aid anyone doing further research. The author even offers resources (websites) for learning about his case as well as the cases of other people who were cruelly treated by the American justice system. In my opinion, the main theme of the book is spreading awareness, and I believe the author did a great job in that aspect. James believes that people do not have to wait until a loved one is affected to speak up because we can actually enact real change by standing strong and speaking with one voice. With his expertise as a jailhouse lawyer, the author is able to save people like Danny Jenkins from harsh fates, which they do not deserve. The courts, the judges, and even the government have to be held responsible for their actions and ensure innocent citizens are not convicted for crimes they did not commit. The elected officials should also be able to perform their duties without fear of backlash or controversy.

The author's simple but engaging writing style will not confuse or throw off people who are not experts in law. But the book is best suited for adults because of the strong language and heavy subject matter. Important footnotes were included at regular intervals to shed more light on certain topics and events. I was also able to learn some new things about court proceedings. For example, the judges will not consider any evidence that is not on record because the court can only consider the record while ruling a case.

I have decided to rate this book five out of five stars because of how well-written it is. I disliked nothing about this book. It was exceptionally edited without errors and gave me a whole new perspective on the American political and judicial system; therefore, it deserves the full rating. I definitely look forward to reading it again soon. I recommend this enlightening book for lovers of books concerning American law, government, and politics.
