Each of us has some personal battles to fight, and some of them can be overwhelming. What happens when such external troubles and tribulations as wars, rumors of wars, gun shootings, accidents, violations and killings of women, children, and the defenseless, and deteriorating weather conditions, among others, add to these? Can our brains even process their immensity? Can we maintain our cool, and even if we seem to presently do, for how long? Situations like these expose our limitations as humans and highlight our urgent, inevitable need for divine assistance to not only survive life's different shades and phases but to also attain a better place in the afterlife. "BT FROG: Beginning to Fully Rely on God," written by Rebecca Brown, comes across as a timely intervention to get this process, this decision, started.

I connected with this devotional on a deeper level because it touched on the various personal and spiritual crises I have been through. Reading this book has helped me identify the key cause of my predicament: my unwillingness to surrender to God's will for my life. That deceptive illusion that I am absolutely in control of my life and destiny has made me ignore several divine revelations and providences that would have made me a peaceful and joyous soul and saved me a lot of the regrettable incidents that have happened to me.

But then I am grateful to have come across this book at this gloomy, lonely phase of my life. I am better informed now and can see the need to place God first in all my dealings and start a daily relationship with him through prayers and studying the Bible and other spiritual books. I have equally recognized the benefits of engaging in church and humanitarian activities in accordance with God's guidance. The most important impact this book has had on me is helping me to develop more confidence in God's love, grace, and mercy. All the biblical passages cited in this book spoke to the deepest part of my consciousness, distilling in me tears of liberation. This passage is especially comforting and assuring to me: "Be still, and know that I am God!" (Psalm 46:10).

This book was intentionally prepared to help readers easily connect with it. The author uses a lot of relatable, everyday realities and items, as well as her personal stories and those around her, to achieve this target. We see this in the analogies made with bread, a scented candle, a fogged mirror, editing, a credit report, the dodge ball, the author's reflections on the bird feeder, and her friend Pat's near-death experience, among others. There are also sections titled "Prayers" and "Time for Reflection and Growth." These sections gave me the opportunity to commune with God, ponder, and assess my values and aspirations. Furthermore, I liked that the teachings in this book can be beneficial even in raising our children, interpersonal relationships, and community services. It just shows that when God is at the center of our lives, everything begins to fall into its proper place, irrespective of life's inevitable troubles and tribulations.

The only area I found needed a little fixing was the editing. I found more than ten grammatical errors in the book, and this is the reason I am removing one star and rating it four out of five stars. However, the grammatical mistakes weren't so "heavy" as to interfere with my comprehension of the text. I had a smooth reading experience, but for the sake of excellence, they need to be corrected so that this book can receive its well-deserved five-star rating. This book is a suitable read for Christians looking for practical, relatable material to enrich their spiritual and interpersonal lives. If you are at a point in your life where you still don't see the reason to rely on God, this could be helpful: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take" (Proverbs 3:5–6). This book is written to help you get started.
