28 Disastrous Dates by Poppy Mortimer is a humorous memoir that creatively teaches about growth and self-love. Mortimer details 28 Disastrous Dates. The dates described are humorous and sometimes unbelievable. They range from outright hysterical to traumatic. From the seven-foot giant with a disturbing workout practice, to the party that turns out to be much more than just that. However, it is through these disastrous dates that Mortimer discovers what she likes and what she doesn’t. They also allow her to set standards and embrace happiness as a personal right.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love the raw honesty and emotions infused into the text. Every date had me laughing and wondering how I would react if it had been me. I love how clear and firm she is about the type of relationship she wants. And even thou she endured disappointment after disappointment her values remained. Mortimer’s willingness to remain open to love is commendable. However, it is her passion for individuality that hooked me. She loves business and lives a full life surrounded by love and passion.

There is nothing that I dislike about this book. The book is a masterful blend of wit and entertainment. It is well-edited with no grammatical errors.

I rate this book 5 out of 5. It is entertaining and therapeutic at the same time. While the dates were terrible and I enjoyed a good laugh I ended my read feeling confident. Mortimer reminded me that a woman is not defined by her relationship status.

If you are struggling to find “the one’’ this book is definitely for you. It would make an excellent read for anyone who enjoys a good laugh. But also the woman searching for other women who live their lives outside of society's modus operandi. The right relationship can bring a feeling of fulfillment but the wrong one can bury you in sadness. Never forget that you are an individual all by yourself. This is must read. I am looking forward to the sequel.
