Review of Niching Up
The author, Chris Dreyer, introduced the book Niching Up by letting readers know that he never imagined he’d create one of the nation’s leading SEO agencies when he started his career. Initially, he pursued history in college and even began his professional life overseeing a detention room at a nearby high school, a role he hadn’t expected. However, when a search on Google led him to online marketing courses after querying “how to make money online,” he discovered his genuine passion. Before long, his websites were topping the search results for terms like “double chin.”
His achievements prompted him to establish Rankings.io, an SEO firm dedicated to assisting top-tier personal injury law practices in securing significant injury and car accident cases via Google’s organic search results. Remarkably, his enterprise earned a place on the Inc. 5000 list for five consecutive years.
This book is a very educational piece that no reader will carefully read without benefiting immensely from the author’s real-life experiences of being successful in one’s endeavours. The author clearly defined the meaning behind the words “niching up” and explained how they can be applied in business. At the end of each of the eight chapters of the book, I was eager to read more.
In the early chapters, he focused on the importance of deciding and creating a niche for oneself in business endeavours rather than taking up many things at a time. The author made the book interesting to read by sharing his real-life experiences and lessons from them with readers.
I rate this book five out of five. The perfect rating is for several reasons. An example is the way the author delivers the contents of the book to flow perfectly while reading, such as by delving deep into the pros and cons of focusing on a niche. Most authors would have just focused on the pros. Another reason is the way he created small insets within some pages, in which he inputted important information such as quotes from entrepreneurs like Warren Buffett. Apart from the reasons stated earlier, I am thrilled about how he delved first into the cons in the first chapter. This helped prepare my mind for the fact that focusing on a niche is not all rosy but also has its own demerits.
However, eventually, the author showed us in the concluding part of the book how he handles the cons of focusing on a niche in his own business endeavours such that they had little or no negative impact on him.
The only negative I noticed in the book was the way the author was inserting dashes in between some sentences. I don’t think it is necessary. My reading experience was still pleasant because of the author’s due diligence in presenting his points. His style of writing ensured that I, as a reader, could relate examples and scenarios given to real-life experiences.
I recommend this book to business owners and entrepreneurs. They will benefit a lot from its content.
