Review of Nine Months
If you are not a pet parent or have no interest in becoming one, feel free to skip this review and the book "Nine Months: The Story of Wilbur" as they would make little or no sense to you.
"Nine Months: The Story of Wilbur" by Tania Tomyn chronicles Wilbur's short stay with Tomyn and her family.
Tomyn and her husband took in Wilbur, the rescue dog, as he resembles Hank, their pet, only to realize that the dog has an issue that affects their daily lives.
My heart skipped a beat when, in the middle of the night, Tomyn asked her husband whether they had made a mistake by taking in Wilbur.
But did they return him to the rescue center, or did they choose to shower the dog with the best love possible? I'll leave it for you to find out.
There are a lot of things I like about this book.
To begin with, I have a deep love for anything related to dogs. Honestly, I was in a dilemma about whether or not to read this book. It's not because I doubt its quality, but rather because I anticipated, from the description, that it would be an emotionally challenging read. Yet, I gathered the courage, and I'm glad I did.
I think the author did well in including photographs of Wilbur and Hank, as they enhance the reader's connection to the narrative.
The book consists of ten chapters, each named after the ten months of the year, from June to March. You might question the choice of June to March instead of January to October. The reason for Tomyn selecting these chapter names will become evident as you delve into the book. I am confident that no other titles would be more appropriate for these chapters.
It was challenging for me not to tear up when Willy struggled to spend one more second with Tania and her family. I believe it will have the same effect on you. I still find it hard to imagine the pain Tomyn must have experienced while reflecting on the past and documenting all the events.
The language is easy to follow, and readers of all levels will be able to understand it without difficulty.
Throughout the book, I did not come across a single error, which shows that the book has been exceptionally well-edited.
Also, the book is free from profane words.
However, there is one aspect I dislike.
I don't appreciate that the author included the prices for the dog's treatments and procedures. I believe that it is not necessary. However, this is my opinion, and others may not have an issue with it. Therefore, I won't be deducting any points for this.
Considering all things, I give the book a 5-star rating.
I highly recommend it to anyone who has a deep and genuine love for our canine friends. The book will deepen your love for them even more.
