Owing to his peripatetic lifestyle, Rohit Srivastava, the author of ‘Many Rides, Many Stories', had the opportunity to interact with several Uber drivers that inspired and nonplussed him. The drivers shared with the author their personal lives, their American dreams and aspirations, and in some instances, enlightened him unintentionally.

Sometimes, it feels nonchalant to pour out one’s inner turmoil to a complete stranger. Knowing that we may not see the person again gives a sense of relief. The solution may or may not be helpful, but it surely makes one see the problem in a new light. Similarly, some of the drivers found the author placid enough to share their plight with him. In turn, the author gave them his words of advice. The experiences of a few of the drivers who courageously braved drug addiction, racial abuse, and modern slavery are empowering and, at the same time, gut-wrenching. Some out of desperation and others out of leisure, it is truly remarkable to learn about the different reasons a person chooses to drive for Uber. One such intriguing story is about Hiba, who is a professor of mathematics and drives Uber because it helps her think clearly and allows her to solve math problems with ease.

The writing style of the author is devoid of verbiage. The interactions are not too long or too short. This helps the reader focus without distraction. I really liked how the author incorporated his wife’s suggestions for him in the book and how he followed them to break out of his introverted side to interact with the drivers.

It was an absolute delight for me to read this book. The different stories invoked feelings of empathy, sadness, joy, and ambivalence within me, and I had an exhilarating experience reading this book. I have nothing to dislike about this book or have any suggestions for improvement. The editing of the book is splendid, with minimal errors. Therefore, I rate this book a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars. Further, I recommend this book to those who are looking to broaden their horizons and those who like reading motivational and riveting stories.
