All You’ll Never Be: Because of Who You Are is a short book by E.L. Neve that explores the less obvious parts of our reality, particularly the parts of ourselves we often push to the background. Neve breaks down her message into five thoughts, outlining these backgrounds that affect our lives. She encourages us readers to focus on the good things within us and be at peace with the things that we are not. Many of the concepts she covers are simple, yet often and easily forgotten. She offers her explanations as a new way to think about oneself.
Human intelligence causes us to overlook the simple truths of life and, in turn, overcomplicate our lives. One of Neve’s main points is how easy it is to diminish our capabilities when we are focused on what we are not capable of. She effectively explains this concept with examples in nature. I particularly liked the example she used with grasshoppers. Overall, I think the use of metaphors and images of nature throughout the book made her points come across clearly.
I listened to the Audible edition of the book, so I did not get to look at the illustrations. However, the author added short musical melodies to the Audible version in the place of illustrations. I was impressed with the music, especially once I found out that Neve wrote and performed the music herself. The music was a pleasant interlude between chapters. It sounded fitting of a soundtrack that accompanies a hero’s journey of self-discovery. Neve also narrated the book herself, and her voice was calming. She spoke slowly and clearly, taking her time to lay out significant ideas.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. It is clear to me that the author put a lot of thought and intention into this book. The music heightened the reading experience for me. The book contains philosophical musings that will make readers think while also encouraging them.
