Review of Inner Trek
Name of the book: Inner Trek
Author’s name: Mohan Ranga Rao
Summary: The start of the book took me by surprise. I was expecting this book to be a travel guide of the author’s favorite travel destination (which it is) instead, the book starts with an Indian land mafia, Jagdish, threatening Mohan to sell his land to him. I could feel the horror developing in Mohan’s heart while sitting there in Jagdish’s car beside his lawyer, Mr. Hedge, who betrayed him for a hefty sum from the mafia.
‘Inner Trek: A Reluctant Pilgrim in the Himalaya’, written by Mohan Ranga Rao, is travelogue and memoir of the author’s pilgrimage to the Holy Mount Kailash in Himalayas, Tibet. It also include the author’s stunning adventure to Mansarovar lake, which is said to be the staircase to heaven according to different religions.
I believe that the author’s decision to travel to Mount Kailash must have been due to self-realization or spiritual awakening that drew him to the sacred place. When a person wants to know about oneself and wants clarity towards their lives, such pilgrimage is expected. I am glad that the author decided to pen down his experience because it would help a lot of people who are planning their trip to Kailash Mansarovar. Immediately after reading the title of the book, I knew this book was going to bring sheer joy and peace to mind. This is the reason why I was able to complete the book in a single go. Get your copy of the book to know more about the author’s journey to the Himalayas and how the series of events set the author on this trip.
Positive: I am fascinated by how the author has expressed his trust and love for his wife, Mamatha, in the book. When the author wrote that the first person he met after he was threatened be that mafia and his lawyer was his wife, I immediately went back to remember a saying from Hindu scriptures. It goes like a person’s wife is his best friend. The marvelous photographs incorporated in the book leave the readers mesmerized and also hold their interest.
Negative: I liked the book a lot and didn’t find anything that could be put into this section of the review.
Rating and Justification: I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 because firstly, I like to travel and secondly, a travel guide/ experience of Kailash parikrama(moving around the circumference of the mountain in order to pray) coming from an Indian author left me blissful. Reading this book really made my day.
Recommendation: I would recommend this book to every traveler and travel enthusiast. Travelers planning a trip to India should read this book so that they could explore the Himalayan beauty with guidance. It will help them add the correct destinations to their bucket lists. Anyone interested in knowing about the latest Himalayan ranges of North India should consider reading this book. This book can teach people a lot about Hinduism, though it is not restricted to it, and any person can read it regardless of their religion. If you’re not planning to go anytime soon, you should read the book and take notes.
Errors: I didn’t find any errors in the book while reading it. The book is edited exceptionally.
