Review of Is This Domestic Abusé?

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Is This Domestic Abusé?" by Rebecca Commean.]
According to the Beacon of Hope Crisis Center, up to 6 million women suffer from domestic violence. Other reports also added by the author in this book show that a high percentage of women who were murdered were killed by their intimate partners. This alone should emphasize the dangers of domestic violence and why it should not be tolerated in any form and firmly kicked against, especially in the church.
The author, using her experience as a victim and survivor of domestic violence, talks about what domestic violence is, the different forms of it, why it should be taken more seriously in the church and not neglected and how to break free from this situation. In each of the five parts of this book, Is This Domestic Abuse?, she leaves no stone unturned and lets her readers draw from her well of knowledge, which she pours out uninhibitedly into the book, writing all she knows about domestic violence and doing it well as she experienced it firsthand.
I was not enthused about finishing this book, as I enjoyed every bit of it and could continue reading and educating myself on all the author had to say about domestic violence. I loved every aspect of this book; first, the fact that the author was able to bare herself to her readers through her stories, wearing her abuse on her sleeves so readers could learn from her story. That could only be bravery and I admire her for that. I also loved how she was bold enough to call out the church. Most religious people are scared to call out the church for their wrongs, but not Rebecca Commean; she did it respectfully and criticized them constructively in this book. Now, we can only hope that corrections are made. I loved the way everything in the book was well detailed. You could see that she has a pure heart for victims of domestic abuse and will do anything within her capacity to help them. Reading this book was really educating, enlightening, and eye-opening. Women are going through a whole lot in marriages, and it is not spoken about as much as it should be.
This book has no imperfections, and for that reason, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. Reading a book is like a journey and I did not want to end this journey which says a lot about what a powerful book it is and therefore deserves nothing less.
I would recommend this book for women first; every woman should get to read this book, as should victims of domestic abuse, pastors in the church and domestic violence counselors.
