“Inner Trek” by Mohan Ranga Rao is a non-fictional and detailed book that explains the experience of a trek taken by the author to Mount Kailash in the Tibetan Plateau. Mohan is a married man in his 50s who resides in south India with his wife Mamatha.

The story begins with the land dispute between a mafia member named Jalli Jagdish, who was forcing and threatening Mohan to sell his property to him at a lower price. When the author finds out that his advocate has also shaken hands with Jalli Jagdish, he gets scared and shares his problems with his wife, Mamatha. Mamatha then took Mohan to their sanctum to pray in front of their idol, Lord Shiva, for a way out and made him take a vow to visit Kailash Manasa Sarovar and take a dip in the holy river if the problem got easily solved. Fortunately, with the help of another lawyer, the author gets a fair price for his land.
For two years, Mohan did not consider going to Mount Kailash Sarovar. But after getting constant reminders to take the trip to the holy destination they have vowed to God, Mohan finally decided to go on the trip to Mount Kailash as an adventurous trek. Both the husband and wife planned the trip together, and with the help of an agency, they started their pilgrimage.

Pointing out the title “Inner Trek,” which makes complete sense to me and justifies itself as how your inner struggles can change the way you think about the world and ‘everything happens for a reason’, the increasing altitude of an adventurous journey changes into a spiritual one. The author learns that everything this world contains is so small in front of God.

Mohan Ranga Rao has done some impressive work while narrating his pilgrimage to Mount Kailash. His way of explaining every little detail about the places, food, struggles, and, most importantly, the reasons for the rituals they took part in until the completion of the Parikrama was phenomenal. The clear and beautiful pictures the author has shared in this book are what made me feel more spiritual on this journey and keep my eyes glued to the pages with more enthusiasm.

I rate this book a solid 5 out of 5, as I cannot find any mistakes. I have already mentioned the reasons above for my 5-star rating without any doubt. “Inner Trek” is professionally edited and written by the author. I would recommend this book to every person, whether religious or not, and if anyone wants to take the trip to the holy Mount Kailash, then this book is for you.
