It is hard these days to find a business whose core philosophies are love, kindness, compassion, and abundance in a dog-eat-dog type of world. But this is what Jan Ryde, the CEO of Hästens, has made his family business about. The book "When Business is Love," written by Jan Ryde, was created to fulfill the promise he made to himself several decades ago when his family-owned business was struggling. As the CEO at that time, he committed to writing a book explaining how a business can run on love once its annual sales reached 100 million US dollars. The book precisely accomplishes this goal by discussing the philosophies implemented in Jan Ryde's family company, Hästens. These philosophies played a pivotal role in transforming the company from a struggling state to a successful one. Philosophies such as love, kindness, authenticity, congruence, vulnerability, and abundance are explored in the book.

He first discusses how his family business came into being and the causes of the business's struggles. He shares his personal life story, which includes very vulnerable information about himself. Then, he discusses how he adopted these philosophies and how they are embodied in the company. One highlight of the book is how he meticulously explained the implementation of his philosophies in the company, to the extent that anyone who wants to incorporate these principles into their own company can easily do so. It was also well-edited. One drawback of the book is the repetition of the same idea throughout. The main theme, emphasizing love and abundance, is reiterated so frequently that it gives the reader the impression that they are not learning something new at some point.

I am giving it a rating of five out of five since it was very detailed in explaining how his philosophies are implemented in the book, making it easy for anyone who wants to follow suit to do so. It would be very beneficial to entrepreneurs and CEOs of businesses that want their businesses to embody these philosophies.
