This is an interesting book by Thomas Alfie that focuses on expectant fathers. When the wife is expectant, a man needs to accept being a father, including consulting other fathers about how to navigate through. The author teaches how to walk through the pregnancy journey, delivery, and the basics of raising an infant until he or she becomes independent.

The man needs to get his finances in order, which includes saving, proper budgeting, and taking insurance during pregnancy. Listening to your partner express her fears and worries, eating healthy food together, making her sleep better, having sex if she is in for it, exercising to avoid excessive weight gain, managing pain, regulating mood, and getting better sleep, assisting in house chores, advising on the avoidance of alcohol, having enough family time, and assisting in managing stress are part of a man's responsibilities during pregnancy. One should also learn how to feed the baby, change diapers, and help the baby grow into a responsible child.

I love the way the author was generous in sharing his wife's pregnancy journey. Everything that he went through and what he learned will serve as a guide for other fathers out there. This also made the story more real and enlightening. The way he systematically presented his ideas was also captivating. He went from psychological preparation for the pregnancy journey until delivery and the development of the child. This makes readers follow the events until the end. There are quotes that he gives throughout the book. They were very engaging, and I found myself noting them down for the future.

There is nothing to dislike in the book. The author's attitude is one to be embraced by fathers out there. The book is detailed enough to enable one to understand what the author is trying to bring out. I found no grammatical errors while reading the book, and this makes me say that the book is exceptionally well-edited. All these positives make me give this book a perfect rating. I rate The First-Time Father: The Expectant Survival Guide for First-Time Dads Through Pregnancy Journey 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend this book to all fathers out there, especially first-time fathers. It is a good guide on how to navigate through the pregnancy journey. Expectant mothers should also read it to capture some important parts for discussion with their husbands.
