Are You Love Smart or Love Stupid by Dr. Rachel Sims is the author's take on how to build good romantic relationships and make them last. The author’s advice stems from her professional experience counselling couples facing challenges in their relationships and her personal experiences with dating in today’s world. These recommendations are rooted in demystifying popular perceptions about what an ideal relationship should be, which, to a great extent, are influenced by Hollywood movies far removed from reality. The author covered all aspects of married life or dating that might be the source of conflict, such as managing finances, discussing your past relationships, introducing your partner to your friends and family, taking relationship advice from family, and much more.

The best thing about this book, including the great advice, is the author's sense of humour and lightheartedness in narrating real-life analogies. From the first pages of this book, I knew it would be an entertaining read; the author did not disappoint. There is a high chance you have been guilty of believing at least one of the myths debunked in this book or have found yourself in a similar situation. For example, going on a date with someone you met online and spying at a distance to see if they look like their online selves, or having dinner with your date and wondering who should pay the bill. What should you do in similar situations? How do you manage conflict in your home? Everything and more is detailed in this book.

I rate this book five stars out of five. It is well-edited, entertaining, and full of practical advice. The author used many analogies and funny anecdotes that made understanding the concepts easy. There are many instances of borderline profanity in this book, including non-borderline profanities. This book contains no stories of sexual intercourse, but there is a story of two characters kissing each other and another story of a lover finding nude photos on their partner’s phone. Other than stories of couples fighting and wishing death to each other, there are no instances of violence in this book. There is nothing negative I have to say about this book, and I recommend it to readers of all religions, including married and unmarried couples.
