Review of SPIRITUALITY Modern Disciples of Jesus Christ
Divinely inspired, SPIRITUALITY Modern Disciples of Jesus Christ by Bettina E. Obernuefemann chronicles the revelations the author received—words intended to illuminate for Christians the power of faith to shape one's life and touch those around them. More than a book solely for believers, it explores universal aspects of the human experience that warrant reflection. Fundamentally, the book aims to foster the "Modern Disciples" of Jesus, sharing insights that may cultivate a deeper spiritual connection with the divine, regardless of formal religious affiliation. It examines pathways to forgiveness, happiness, love, inner peace, and gratitude.
The writing of this work was interrupted for over two years when the author underwent open heart surgery. Now complete, the book contains 22 sections conveying the spiritually imparted wisdom she received. The author advocates beginning one's relationship with God by having regular conversations with Him. She notes that the Holy Spirit, ever-present, contains guides, teachings, angels, and entities to assist with one's specific needs; simply accepting the Holy Spirit can open this connection.
I found reading this book to be an enjoyable experience. The tone is friendly rather than preachy, contrary to what some may assume from the spiritually-oriented title. I love that by thriving for good virtues, developing compassion for others, and laying the moral foundation central to the teachings of Jesus, the author hopes to promote goodwill, tranquility, and harmony among all people as "Modern Disciples." This book provides inspiration and a roadmap to realize that vision. While intended for a Christian audience as a guide to meditation, I would recommend this book to anyone with an open mind about religion and spirituality. The direct, uncomplicated style allows the wisdom to shine through clearly. I did not dislike anything about this book, which is why I am rating it 5 out of 5 stars.
I did encounter some errors in the book, but they are minor. Overall, it provides a valuable perspective for those looking to enrich their spiritual life, whether they identify as Christians or not. Most appreciable is the author's humility in presenting herself not as an expert but as a fellow traveler seeking a greater connection with the divine. This sincere tone makes the book a worthy read for anyone interested in understanding meditation and one's inward journey.
